EFS features in Fasten.it with the story of a long bolt. In its Autumn 2026 issue, the trade magazine Let’s Fasten.it dedicates page 36 to a 560 mm M20 square head bolt in property class 8.8 for structural steelwork. The article explores what it means to rely on the right supplier when the first attempt fails.

The first batch, made by another supplier, never reached site. The bolts had been quenched and tempered horizontally, as is standard practice for short fasteners. However, at this length, several shanks bent beyond the straightness tolerance specified on the drawing.

The customer was left with an unusable batch and an order that had to start again, which was already running late.

A long bolt needs a production cycle designed for its length.

EFS – European Fasteners Solutions took over the order and reorganised the entire production cycle. The 45×29 mm square head is hot forged. Quenching and tempering is carried out with the bolts standing vertically, to limit distortion of the shank. The shank below the head is turned to meet the tight tolerances of its seat, and the 115 mm thread is rolled.

Each stage was entrusted to a specialist Italian workshop, using raw material of European origin, and checked before the next one was authorised.

Why the customer turned to EFS

The original problem had nothing to do with a workshop’s ability to carry out a single operation. What was missing was someone looking at the bolt as a whole and anticipating how its length would affect heat treatment.

That is the role EFS plays as main contractor. It knows which workshops can handle each stage on non-standard components, how to sequence them, and how to manage inspections from one step to the next. For the customer, this means a single point of contact responsible for the whole supply chain. If something does not add up, there is no need to mediate between forger, heat treater and turner: EFS takes care of it.

On supplies like this, much of the work lies in foreseeing where the cycle might go wrong, before it happens.

EFS – European Fasteners Solutions is still TÜV Certified Fasteners Supplier ISO 9001:2015. The company has completed the renewal of its TÜV Italia (TÜV SÜD group) ISO 9001:2015 certification, valid for the period 2026-2029. This is not a formality. A new cycle of audits has confirmed that the management processes for special fastener supplies continue to meet the requirements of the international standard.

As Mattia Cesana, Managing Director of EFS, pointed out, certifications are always a milestone, but also a driver for improvement. Infact, every renewal means questioning procedures, controls and documentation again — confirming them is not enough.

The qualification process directly involved the EFS quality team throughout every stage of the audit, from document verification to process checks.

For EFS customers, the renewal translates into continuity on three concrete fronts:

consistent, verifiable processes throughout the supply project

documented traceability of materials and controls

clear accountability across the supply chain.

The value of TÜV ISO 9001:2015 certification for EFS

The certification carries particular weight for buyers in the DACH market. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, TÜV certification is far from a minor detail. It is often one of the first criteria a technical procurement office checks when qualifying a supplier, before even looking at the specifics of a given order.

For customers working with this region — Italian, German, or from other markets with projects destined for Germany — the renewal confirms a requirement that carries real weight in local supply decisions.

Changing or renewing the certification body does not alter the substance of the quality system already in place at EFS: it confirms its robustness under a new, independent external review, carried out by TÜV Italia, part of the TÜV SÜD group.

The EFS fasteners website now offers more product pages, in-depth information on machining and services, new case studies and content in Italian, English and German. It has been expanded to provide buyers, engineers, procurement professionals and quality managers with more technical information from the very first stages of their search for a special fasteners supplier.

The aim is not simply to present what EFS can supply, but to make it easier to understand which solutions can be managed, which processes are involved and what expertise is required.

From product categories to detailed technical information

One of the main developments is the expansion of the product area. General product categories are now complemented by pages dedicated to specific types of fasteners.

The special screws and bolts section, for example, provides dedicated information on drawn fasteners, hexagon head bolts, socket head screws, Torx screws, flange bolts, hammer head bolts and bi-hexagonal fasteners. Individual pages explore their characteristics, industrial applications, materials and relevant standards, together with FAQs addressing recurring technical questions.

The same approach has been applied to services. The mechanical reworking section provides more detailed information on the machining operations that can be carried out on fasteners, including turning, grinding, drilling, milling and thread reworking.
This level of detail is particularly relevant for special fasteners, where a requirement rarely comes down to diameter, length and material alone. Non-standard geometries, tolerances, surface treatments, inspections and subsequent machining operations can determine the entire supply process.

New case studies: from specification to supply

The new case studies have a specific purpose: to show through actual supplies how different technical requirements translate into specific manufacturing processes, machining operations and inspections.

This is also where EFS’s role in coordinating the complete supply project becomes particularly clear. Depending on the project, EFS analyses the specifications, selects suitable manufacturers and processes, coordinates production, any subsequent machining and treatments, and verifies inspections, certifications and traceability.

EFS website therefore also becomes a collection of real industrial applications, helping customers understand not only what can be supplied, but how a special fastener project is managed when it involves different materials, technologies and manufacturing stages.

EFS website now in Italian, English and German

The expansion of the website also reflects the international dimension of EFS. Content is available in Italian, English and German, giving international customers and buyers direct access to information on products, materials, services, industrial sectors and case studies.

The English version provides a reference point for the different international markets in which EFS operates, while the German version addresses a more specific requirement. The DACH region is already an important market for EFS, and providing technical content in German enables buyers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland to explore products and capabilities using terminology suited to their industrial environment.
The German version is not intended exclusively for companies based in the DACH region. It can also support Italian and international customers working on projects for the German market and looking for a supply partner familiar with its requirements and business practices.

This presence is supported by more than localised digital content. EFS has German-speaking sales professionals who can directly manage enquiries, technical specifications and communications with German-speaking buyers and other project stakeholders.
The development of the website therefore follows the development of EFS itself: more technical content to support the evaluation of complex supplies and more tools to communicate directly with international markets.

Being a TÜV certified fasteners supplier ISO 9001:2015 is a natural evolution for EFS – European Fasteners Solutions, already operating with an ISO 9001-compliant quality system. The transition to TÜV reflects a clear strategic direction: strengthening our positioning in European markets, with a particular focus on the DACH area (Germany, Austria and Switzerland).

For companies sourcing special fasteners, certification is not a formality. It is a practical evaluation tool used by technical buyers and quality departments to assess supplier reliability. In German-speaking countries especially, TÜV certification is widely recognised and often plays a decisive role in supplier qualification.

As a TÜV certified fasteners supplier ISO 9001:2015, EFS applies a structured approach to every project:

selection of qualified European manufacturers based on application requirements

full control of processes across the supply chain

complete material traceability

compliant documentation (EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 certificates)

This operating model is particularly relevant in sectors such as machinery, energy, railway and industrial applications, where consistency and process reliability are critical, as well as in oil & gas projects with stringent technical specifications.

The change of certification authority does not alter the substance of our quality management system. It strengthens its recognition in international markets and aligns EFS with the expectations of buyers who require structured and verifiable supply partners.

In this context, quality is not a statement. It is a working condition: reliable deliveries, defined responsibilities and consistency in managing complex fastener supply projects.

In this case, the request came after planning had been finalised: to bring forward the delivery of a supply for the railway sector by three days.

A small change on paper, but necessary to ensure the on-time execution of an already scheduled contract and to keep the next stages of the project aligned.

Production planning and priority management

Bringing a delivery forward by three days may seem marginal. In complex production systems, it is often a critical issue. Activities are tightly scheduled: supply, surface treatments, machining and deliveries are all interconnected.

Reducing lead times means working within an established balance. That’s why providing special fasteners with short lead time is a real challenge.

The supply consisted of 36,000 special fastening components for the railway sector:

12,000 washers

Supply chain coordination and operational management

The request required coordinated action across the entire supply chain: reprioritising suppliers, managing processing stages and directly overseeing key logistics steps.

This allowed time to be recovered from the early phases of the process.

The most critical phase came at the end. On Friday morning at 8:30am, the goods were available at our warehouse. From that moment, less than two hours remained to complete all shipping activities: quality control, sorting, packing, labelling and documentation.

36,000 parts were sorted and processed with no margin for error in 46 minutes, under significant operational pressure.

Thanks to coordinated teamwork and a flexible organisation, the shipment was dispatched on time. At 12:30pm, the goods were delivered to the customer.

Not only meeting the revised request, but achieving delivery three days ahead of the updated schedule.

This result was made possible by EFS’s supply chain management, ensuring quality, control and operational continuity even in critical situations.

EFS – European Fasteners Solutions is featured on the magazine of Expo Valve with a new technical article focused on Duplex and Super Duplex fasteners, a material solution that is increasingly strategic for Oil & Gas, onshore/offshore and energy applications.

The article, titled “Duplex vs Super Duplex Fasteners: Selection Criteria Based on Real Applications”, is based on EFS’s direct, hands-on experience with real supplies developed for high-performance industrial environments. Rather than offering a purely theoretical comparison, the contribution shares practical selection criteria derived from field experience, in operating conditions characterized by high pressures, corrosive environments, continuous duty cycles and stringent technical specifications.

The article published on Expo Valve highlights how the choice of material is not driven by economic considerations, but by performance requirements, long-term durability and plant safety. Duplex stainless steels, thanks to their austenitic–ferritic microstructure, are presented as a proven solution for many industrial applications, offering a balanced combination of mechanical strength and corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride-containing environments.

Super Duplex stainless steels represent the natural evolution of this material family. Their higher alloy content—especially chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen—allows them to achieve higher mechanical strength and superior resistance to localized corrosion, making them particularly suitable for high-pressure valves and critical components where additional safety margins and consistent performance over time are required.

The EFS article on Expo Valve also draws attention to increasingly crucial aspects of Super Duplex and Duplex fasteners, such as marking, traceability and certification. These elements are now essential to ensure full supply chain control and compliance in critical applications

The DIN 931 standard defines hex head bolts with partial thread, especially suitable for structural joints subjected to high loads. With a nominal diameter of 30 mm and a length of 450 mm, this bolt belongs to the category of large-size fasteners commonly used in industrial plants, machinery, frames and steel structures. In these applications high mechanical stability and long-term reliability are strongly required.

The 10.9 mechanical property class ensures high tensile and yield strength values, achieved through alloy steels subjected to quenching and tempering heat treatments. This makes the bolt suitable for static and dynamic loads, vibrations and cyclic stresses typical of industrial machinery and installations, without resorting to solutions intended for extreme environments.

The iridescent electroplated zinc coating provides effective corrosion protection in critical but non-aggressive industrial environments, such as workshops, production plants and moderately exposed outdoor installations. It represents a balanced technical choice, combining durability, ease of assembly and clear visual identification of the fastener.

This supply reflects EFS’s operational approach: analysing the real application, evaluating loads, operating environment and design constraints, and selecting the most suitable fastening solution in terms of size, material and surface treatment.

EFS – European Fasteners Solutions has been featured in the latest issue of Fasten.it with a technical article dedicated to a case study on bolts and studs made of Inconel 718 for the nuclear sector.

The article describes a testing campaign carried out in collaboration with Sigma Tre Lab, accredited UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018, on special components designed for next-generation modular reactors (SMR).

The goal of the project was to verify the regulatory compliance and mechanical strength of fasteners made from Inconel 718, a nickel-chromium superalloy that ensures outstanding performance under extreme conditions:

resistance to fatigue and creep

stability up to 700 °C

excellent corrosion resistance.

The testing campaign included:

dimensional and metrological checks

hardness and impact tests

microstructural and compositional analyses

non-destructive testing with liquid penetrants.

These processes validate every production batch, ensuring complete traceability and compliance with NACE, ASTM, EN and ISO standards.

The testing phases were documented through photos and videos. Particularly interesting is the liquid penetrant inspection, which makes it possible to detect any surface cracks.

In the video at the ,bottom, you can see the preparation and execution of the test, carried out in collaboration with SIGMATRE LAB, along with the results obtained.

Being featured on Fasten.it with this Inconel 718 case study represents an important acknowledgment of EFS’s commitment to high-performance materials and the continuous improvement of ISO 9001-certified quality.
